Drum kits can take up a considerable amount of room so it's important to know how much space you'll need before purchasing on. In this article, I'll discuss the different types and sizes of kit and how much space on average you'll need to fit them in a room. The Quick Answer A standard 5-piece acoustic drum kit will usually take up approximately 75" x 55" (190 cm x 140 cm) of floor space. A standard-sized electronic drum kit typically requires approximately 50" x 48" (130 cm x 120 cm) of floor space on average. It is best to have at least 5" of space around the drum kit to avoid damaging the drum kit or the walls if the kit moves. For simplicity it has been split up into the different number of pieces. Note that the pieces only refer to the number of drums and not the cymbals. For example, a 5-piece drum kit will usually have 5 drums and 3 cymbals so will actually contain 8 parts but this is not how they are referred to. Keep in mind that the following dimensions listed below are averages.
